Prelude: Our Monday Musings article will wrap up the week that was. We’ll cover stock up, stock down, and some names to watch who might flirt with the devy landscape. We’ll discuss the waiver wire of your C2C leagues, how to structure each player, and the allocation you should give to each potential pickup, and the reasoning behind it.
Devy Stock Up ⬆️
LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier (2025)
Nussmeier has been my QB1 for this class for over a year now, and you won’t find anyone higher on him than I am. His performance against USC on Labor Day was exceptional. He was decisive, willing to push the ball downfield, and knew when to take what the defense gave him. The quick processing and accuracy were already on film, and Nuss expounded on that. Against Nicholls, Nussmeier showed his mobility and pocket navigation. He alluded a free rusher up the middle and navigated to find an open receiver and he showed his chops as a runner by picking up a first down with his legs. Nuss won’t be a 500-yard rusher at the next level, but he is similar to Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert on the ground. Nuss will be able to pick up positive yards with his legs. He gets his first actual road test when LSU faces South Carolina.
Alabama RB Jam Miller (2025)
Miller is finally piecing everything together. The new coaching staff infused life into him. Under the previous regime, Miller was handcuffed and not given the opportunity. With the current staff, he’s being used correctly as a runner. Miller has looked decisive as a runner with excellent lateral movement, and the finishing speed is there. While he hasn’t been used as a pass catcher, which has been his calling card since coming out of high school, the overall snap-share and efficiency are worth the trade-off. I expect Miller will be used as a pass catcher to round out his profile.
North Carolina RB Davion Gause (2027)
The true freshman was someone I highlighted as someone to watch during the summer. Omarion Hampton leaves for the NFL, and the room behind him is shallow. Hampton exited the contest this past weekend, and Gause saw extensive action with 16 rushing attempts for 105 yards, one touchdown, and a reception. Gause was part of the Chaminade Madonna Prep that featured fellow true freshman CJ Bailey, Jojo Trader, and Jeremiah Smith. Gause showed that he will be next in line at North Carolina and even when Hampton returns, Gause should be part of the rotation.
Arkansas RB Ja’Quinden Jackson (2025)
A converted Quarterback, Jackson failed to live up to the devy hype while at Utah; now at Arkansas, Jackson has pieced everything together. Jackson kept Arkansas in the game against Oklahoma State and should be a riser as the season continues. The one aspect that will help his profile is being used as a pass catcher. He’s never had a season with more than nine receptions, but from the limited sample so far this year, it appears that Jackson won’t be a hindrance in that aspect. Arkansas has a tough schedule, but if Jackson can continue to be a force each week, his devy value should be on the uptick.
Devy Stock Down ⬇️
Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders
I’ve never been a Sanders guy, and if you watch the film, you should see why. There are some next-level throws that he makes; the issue is for every one of those, he throws across the grain without the needed arm strength, misses reads, stares down his first option, does not handle pressure, lacks pocket navigation, the inability to climb the pocket and liability when scrambling. He’ll get drafted because of name recognition, and if he gets taken early, he’s Malik Willis 2.0 if he isn’t tied to a young, innovative play-caller who can mask his limitations. He needs to go somewhere like the Rams with Sean McVay to be a distributor and to learn to get throws out on time and in rhythm.
