Who is Malik Washington?
Washington was a four-star prospect in the composite rankings who attended Archbishop Spalding in Severn, Maryland, where he led his team to multiple championships. He was a three-year starter, passing for 7,161 yards and 74 touchdowns while also contributing 701 rushing yards and 19 rushing touchdowns. Washington was a two-sport athlete, playing basketball before giving it up after his junior season to focus on football.
He held 22 scholarship offers and ultimately narrowed his choices to Maryland, Penn State, Virginia Tech, and UCF. However, he committed to Maryland over the summer and remained solid in his pledge through National Signing Day. I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing Washington, and as great as he is on the field, he’s even better off of it. He has everything you want in a signal-caller—he’s mentally strong, mature, and sees life beyond football.
On the field, Washington stands tall in the pocket, progresses through his second and third reads, throws a tight spiral, and has the arm strength to make all the necessary throws at the Power Four level. His natural arm talent is evident, and he delivers accurate off-platform throws from multiple arm angles. As a runner, Washington is a powerful force, difficult to bring down, and showcases creativity in the open field. He processes the game well, anticipating defenders’ movements and picking up chunk yardage with his legs. His playing style is reminiscent of Cam Newton, the quarterback he models his game after.
