Who is Carson Beck?
Beck was a four-star in the composites and attended Mandarin High in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a dual-sport athlete who played baseball and was a first baseman and pitcher. Beck was a two-year starter and finished high school with 345 completions from 635 passing attempts for 3,546 yards, 59 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. As a senior, he improved as a runner, with 167 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Beck was part of the 2020 recruiting class and held 12 offers.
Beck initially committed to Alabama before reopening his commitment and was deciding between Florida and Georgia before ultimately landing in Athens to be a Georgia Bulldog. Beck spent the first two years being the backup to Stetson Bennett; in limited action in mop-up duty, Beck showed flashes of his potential.
During spring camp in 2023, Georgia had an open competition with him and Brock Vandagriff, and the beat reporters would make it seem like a close competition. However, the spring game showed Beck was the clear option to run the offense and would be named the starter. Beck would have a very productive season and has emerged as a top-three quarterback for the 2025 draft class.
Strengths
Beck has great pocket poise and navigation. He doesn’t get rattled in the pocket when pressured and never appears to panic when the pass rush comes to him. Beck will step up or slide out of pressure to bide additional time and always has his head up looking downfield for his receiver and can get the throw-off. The poise under pressure and the full knowledge of the offense allowed him to stay ahead of the chains and avoid costly mistakes. Beck is deadly in the short to intermediate area and throws with great precision. He has good arm strength, but his accuracy and ability to anticipate are his calling cards.
Georgia doesn’t ask too much of Beck, and due to that, he plays calmly. The moment is never too long for him. Beck processes defenses quickly, allowing him to get to his second and third read. Because of this, he never really gets overwhelmed, and that is a trait that should help him this coming season as a second-year starter in the offense. Beck has good mobility not only in maneuvering around the pocket, but if he needs to scramble out from pressure, he can take off and run. Beck isn’t a liability in the pocket, and that athleticism allows him to keep plays alive and make key runs when he needs to. Beck won’t get 300 rushing yards with the Georgia offense because he isn’t asked to do so with the weapons in all aspects and can check down if need be, but I would not be surprised if, at the next level, he can show himself as a better runner as he is a good athlete and light-footed.
At the next level, he isn’t dependent on a good offensive Line to be effective. Beck does well throwing on the run and making off-platform plays when he has to. Beck has good size and should be able to hold up if he gets pressured and hit.
