5 Dynasty Takeaways From Week 5
Kevin Coleman breaks down his top 5 dynasty takeaways from Week 5.
Week 5 of the NFL season has brought plenty of surprises and pivotal moments for dynasty managers to digest. Whether you're managing a rebuild or pushing for a title, staying ahead of trends and capitalizing on player developments is critical. With injuries shaking up depth charts and breakout performances altering future values, now is the time to assess where your roster stands and who’s emerging as a must-watch player. In this article, we’ll dive into the top dynasty takeaways from Week 5, breaking down key performances, trends, and potential buy-low or sell-high opportunities. If you're looking to gain that competitive edge, this is where you need to start.
Spencer Rattler’s Big Opportunity
With Derek Carr sidelined due to an oblique injury, rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler has a huge opportunity to step up and showcase his talent. The Saints are considering their options, but Rattler is a strong candidate to take over as the starter. Although he hasn’t seen regular-season action yet, his preseason performance (202 yards and a touchdown on 20 of 38 passing) showed glimpses of the arm talent and playmaking ability that made him a top college recruit. Rattler’s history is a mixed bag, going from potential No. 1 overall pick at Oklahoma to struggling for consistency at South Carolina, but there’s still untapped talent here. His aggressive style—particularly in targeting deeper areas of the field—could translate well in the NFL if the Saints can protect him. He prefers operating in shotgun with spread formations, which suits the Saints’ current receiving corps.
From a dynasty perspective, Rattler’s value could skyrocket if he takes advantage of this opportunity and plays well. With Carr’s long-term health in question, a strong performance could put Rattler in the conversation as a potential starter next season. That kind of upside makes him a potential stash for managers looking to get ahead of the curve. If he performs well, you’ll see an instant return on his value.

Drake Maye’s Debut!
In an ideal world, the Patriots would have waited a bit longer before handing rookie quarterback Drake Maye the reins, but the offense's downward spiral has accelerated the timeline. After a promising start under Jacoby Brissett, New England’s offense has hit a wall, averaging a league-worst 8.7 points per game from Weeks 3 to 5. At 1-4, head coach Jerod Mayo is ready to see if the No. 3 overall pick can provide a spark.
Maye’s mobility and playmaking ability offer a much-needed change for an offense struggling behind a patchwork offensive line that’s allowed a staggering 48.3% pressure rate. His first test? A tough Houston Texans defense that’s been relentless in pressuring quarterbacks all season. While Maye’s first start won’t be easy, the Patriots believe the rookie has the talent to turn things around—and if he can perform well against a top-tier defense, his dynasty value could skyrocket.
In his first start, look for the Patriots to lean heavily on their rushing attack with Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson to take some pressure off the rookie quarterback. While Maye’s mobility and athleticism bring a new dynamic to the offense, they’ll need support from the receiving corps and tight ends as well. Demario Douglas, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Hunter Henry will all provide Maye support in this first start and Polk could be the player to target in this offense.

Buy Low On Chase Brown
Cincinnati running back Chase Brown is a clear dynasty buy right now. While Zack Moss may still be getting more snaps, the tide is turning in Brown's favor, and for good reason—he's simply the better back in all facets of the game. Brown's explosiveness is undeniable, with 22% of his carries going for 10+ yards, compared to Moss's 8.8%. He's averaging an impressive 6.3 yards per carry and has scored in consecutive games, including a standout 80-yard, two-touchdown performance. With Cincinnati’s defense struggling, the Bengals will find themselves in plenty of shootouts, meaning Brown will continue to see opportunities. Long-term, he’s a solid piece to have on your roster, boasting plug-and-play ability moving forward, especially given the investment the team has made in him. He's a dynamic playmaker and one of the most affordable pieces of this offense to acquire in dynasty leagues.
